What is South-Asian Heritage Month?

In 2024 from 18 July until 17 August the UK celebrates South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM). Set up in 2019, the month is made to recognise and celebrate the contributions those communities have made to the UK.

Cool Facts about South AsiaπŸ“Š

Did you know that South Asia is home to Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world? It's so high, it reaches way above the clouds! Imagine climbing all the way up there – that would be like reaching for the moon!🌝🌝🌝

South Asia is made up of eight countries: Afghanistan; Bangladesh; Bhutan; India; The Maldives; Nepal; Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Lots of people moved to the UK from South Asian countries in the decade following the Second World War and also after Indian independence and Partition in 1947.

South Asia is also where chess, the super fun strategy game we all love to play, was invented over 1,500 years ago! Pretty cool, right?
